The Class 4A #10 Palestine Wildcats (19-3-0) completed the sweep of the Dogwood Derby with a 2-0 win over the cross-town Westwood Panthers and in the process punched their ticket to the 2024 UIL Playoffs.
The Wildcats struck early when they received a penalty kick in the first minute of the game being taken down in the box. Ismael Gonzales converted.
In the 55th minute, Juan Lopez took a Tony Sanchez pass and unleashed a lightning bolt that glanced off the post and into the back of the net to close the score sheet.
Chris Vigil earned the clean sheet with the help of defenders Colt James, Ricoh Avila, Diego Oliva, Ledesma, Wortham, Cesar Salas and Alfredo Serralde.
The Wildcats next game will be Friday against Lufkin Hudson.
