Multi-Tiered System of Support / Response to Intervention

Multi-Tiered System of Supports or MTSS, encompasses supports for the whole child, and takes into account academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs. PISD strives to intervene and support ALL students in the 3 areas under the MTSS umbrella.
Response to Intervention, or RtI, is a tiered process within MTSS, used for the early identification and support of students with academic, behavioral and social emotional needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. PISD uses the Map assessment for universal screening. Struggling students are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning. Progress is closely monitored to assess both the learning rate and level of performance of individual students. Educational decisions about the intensity and duration of interventions are based on individual student response to instruction and reviewed through the RtI committee on each campus.
